Managing Your Anxiety: Tips For You

Posted on

If you are a person that struggles with an anxiety disorder, you may feel as if there is no solution to your troubles. Anxiety can and does feel overwhelming and downright scary sometimes. But you are not alone in dealing with anxiety. There are a lot of people going through the same things you are going through right now. And, there are also a lot of different ways that you can go about managing your anxiety and dealing with it. Get to know a few tips that may help you to better manage your anxiety. Then, you can be sure to give them a try as soon as possible and, hopefully, see positive results in your life.

Give Yourself "Worry Time"

One of the ways that you can try to manage your anxiety is to actually give yourself designated "worry times" throughout the day. Essentially, the idea behind this is to have specific times picked out during the day where you can freely worry about whatever is bothering you or stressing you out. The rest of the day, you are to tell yourself to stop worrying or to wait until the next "worry time" comes around.

When you first start this practice, it will be hard. And therefore, you should have several times for "worry time" picked out throughout the day. Try 3 to 5 different times to start with, but keep them short. Try for 15 minutes apiece to begin with.

As you get more adept at this practice, you can have fewer "worry times" throughout the day and can even shorten the time periods if you feel comfortable. That way, you spend less and less time worrying and feeling anxious throughout the day and have better control over your anxiety.

Go to Anxiety Therapy

Many people think that having anxiety is not enough reason to go to therapy. However, this is not the case. Anxiety can be a serious mental health issue that can significantly impact your life. As such, in addition to giving yourself "worry time," you should take the time every week to go to anxiety therapy.

Therapy for anxiety can help you to have a place to talk about your anxiety symptoms, what you are worrying about, and the like. You and your therapist can come up with workable solutions to some of the things you worry about and can help you develop additional strategies to manage your anxiety throughout the day.

Be sure to tell your anxiety therapist about your "worry time" strategy as well. That way, they know you are already taking steps to try to manage your anxiety and they can help you tweak or better develop this strategy for yourself.

Now that you know a few tips to help you better manage your anxiety, you can be sure to schedule your first appointment for anxiety therapy right away.
