Substance Abuse Treatment: Are You Ready?

Posted on

Any time is a great time to get into a substance abuse treatment program, but not everyone is willing to take this step because they are either not mentally, physically, or emotionally ready to make the change. You may not be either, but recognizing where you can improve yourself so you can get into substance abuse recovery is more important of a step than you might think.

Are you ready to tackle your substance addiction and change your life? The fact that you're looking into it at all is a great thing and can mean that you are ready or very close. Discuss the following with a loved one you trust or make an appointment with a therapist or counselor to see what you can do to help you get ready for substance abuse treatment.

You're scared for your future

What are you worried about? Are you worried you'll go to jail, get ill and die, get your children taken from you, or lose a loved one due to your addiction or behaviors? Believe it or not, fear can be a great motivator to make a change and can be just what you need to get into substance abuse treatment. It's better to go into a substance abuse recovery treatment center when you still have your fears ahead of you than to have them realized and then get treatment.

You're facing legal repercussions

Unfortunately, many people don't get into a substance abuse treatment center until they have gone to jail or are on probation where they have to get treatment or else violate court orders. If you're facing legal repercussions due to your drug use, then it's in your best interest and looks better to a judge to voluntarily enter a substance abuse treatment center. You may feel like it's impossible to accomplish at first, but once you get into a program you'll realize you have more control of your life.

You're tired of being an addict

Being tired of being an addict is not the same thing as not being an addict, but it's a great milestone to getting clean and sober. You can take your disdain for drugs and the lifestyle as a motivator to get clean for good. You can enter a substance abuse treatment program alone or with the help of a friend, church leader, or family member. Stick with a program to get clean, and you can get great results along the way.
